We understand the importance of this, and we're here to guide you through the process. In this blog post, we'll break down the process of creating your wedding day timeline into five easy steps.
Step 1: Start Early (Don't Procrastinate!)
Picture this: it's the night before your wedding, and you're trying to figure out when you'll have time to brush your teeth between the ceremony and the cake cutting. Avoid this scenario by starting your timeline planning well in advance.
The earlier, the better!
Begin crafting your timeline 6-8 months before the big day, or you might find yourself on a wild toothbrush chase. We will be there every step of the way!
Step 2: Identify Key Moments (Not Just "I Do")
Sure, the "I do" moment is critical, but don't forget about all the other fabulous moments that will make your wedding unforgettable. These might include the first look with parents of the bride, or first look bride and groom, the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, speeches, first dance, cake cutting, and any special traditions or customs unique to your celebration.
Create a checklist of these moments, and you're on your way to a memorable day!
Step 3: Make Time for Dancing (Let's Boogie!)
Your wedding day is all about celebrating with family and friends, and having time to hit the dance floor is a must-have! Not only is it a fantastic way to let loose and create cherished memories, but it also makes for epic photography.
Make sure to allocate enough time for dancing in your timeline, ensuring that everyone can groove to their heart's content.
Step 4: Allocate Time for Photography (this is your transportation back to your wedding day!)
We photographers love our craft, and we want to capture every smile, tear, and dance move on your big day. Allocate ample time in your timeline for pre-ceremony, ceremony, and post-ceremony photography.
This ensures we have enough time to snap all the mega important shots without feeling like a paparazzi on a caffeine binge. A general rule of thumb is to set aside 2-3 hours for photos.
We've photographed at so many stunning venues and know EXACTLY where all the best spots are plus we love getting creative too!!
Step 5: Consider Travel Time & Buffer Time (Because Life Happens)
If your ceremony and reception are at different locations, don't forget to factor in travel time. We don't recommend trying to break any land-speed records in your wedding attire, so plan accordingly.
Account for the time it takes to transport yourself and your wedding party, as well as your photographer and other vendors.
Life is full of surprises.
Unexpected delays can happen, like Aunt Mildred's epic toast that goes on for eons. Build buffer time into your timeline—10-25 minutes between each major event should do the trick.
This way, even if things run a little behind, you can easily catch up without breaking a sweat. Just remember, those buffer minutes are for good vibes, not buffer overflows on your stress meter!
Bonus Step: Consult Your Vendors (We're Team Players!)
