Maddy and Dallas got married at Shafer Farms in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania — and not just any farm. This is Dallas's family's land. The same fields his family has worked for generations became the backdrop for one of the most personal, emotionally alive weddings we've had the privilege of photographing.
There's a different kind of energy when a wedding is rooted in a place that actually means something. You felt it in every corner of the day — in the way guests moved through the property like they'd been there a hundred times, in the handmade details that fit the land rather than fighting it, and in the way Maddy and Dallas never seemed to be performing for anyone. They were just themselves, surrounded by the people who've known them longest.
The morning started with Maddy getting her hair set under a wash of emerald light — a getting-ready moment that somehow managed to feel both editorial and completely real. Outside, her bridesmaids gathered in matching sage pajama sets while Maddy popped a bottle of champagne and absolutely soaked everyone. The joy in that moment was immediate and uncontainable. Dallas, meanwhile, cleaned up sharp in a white dress shirt and bold orange tie — a color that would show up again and again throughout the day, threaded through bouquets, boutonnieres, and even his mother's stunning floral dress.
Before the ceremony, Maddy shared a first look with her father that stopped us in our tracks. No words needed — just a father holding his daughter, both of them knowing exactly what the moment meant. That image is one we'll carry with us for a long time.
The ceremony took place outdoors beneath a canopy of towering trees, the wedding party flanking the couple in a sweeping arc that only underscored how many people showed up to witness this. The arch — wrapped in grapevine and orange lilies — framed their first kiss perfectly.
Portraits after the ceremony took full advantage of the farm's character. Maddy's lace cathedral-train gown looked breathtaking against the green woods. The groomsmen posed on a flatbed trailer with all the swagger of men who were very comfortable on a farm. And then there was the red McCormick Farmall tractor — an icon on the property — where the two of them stole a quiet kiss as the golden hour light wrapped around them. A wide shot of the couple standing hand-in-hand beneath one of the farm's ancient oak trees, the red tractor parked nearby and the summer sky stretching wide above them, might be our favorite frame of the entire day.
The reception inside the barn was nothing short of a party. Dollar bills flew. Silver cowboy hats came out. The mother-son dance was tender and full. And Maddy's brother — in a Dale Jr. shirt, because of course — danced with the bride like they'd been pulling moves together since they were kids. The family dog even made an appearance earlier in the day, sneaking in a kiss with Maddy in her gown before the ceremony. Perfectly chaotic. Perfectly them.
As night fell, the couple changed into their exit looks and walked a sparkler tunnel under a deep blue sky to close out the night — the kind of ending that earns it.
Maddy and Dallas, thank you for letting us into your family's story. Shafer Farms will always hold something special now. Congratulations.
