From the Photographers
We had the absolute pleasure of photographing Melanie & Spencer’s engagement session at the beautiful Mauch Chunk Lake! These two brought along some personal touches that made their session feel uniquely them — a word search to celebrate their shared love of brain teasers, and a horror book as a nod to Melanie’s favorite genre. Their chemistry, laughter, and the golden light made for an unforgettable morning.
How they Met
We met through a dating app, Bumble. Spencer said he never even read my profile. He saw my smile and swiped right. When i got the match request, I very carefully and methodically read his profile over and over before i sent a hello message. (I'm just that kind of person) my honest thatouugh was what the hell, why not. Spencer has very beautiful, soulful eyes (even in pictures) that caught my attention.
We texted for a just over a week and met for lunch at Olive Garden, after we both worked the night before (#nightshiftproblems). things started slow, and maybe a little awkward. But then the conversation topics came easier. We then walked around the Spirit of Halloween store (I'm a huge horror fan and love Halloween) laughing and commenting on the good, the bad and the ugly costumes and decorations. We talked more in the parking lot and it seemed like neither one of us wanted the date to end, but he had to pick up his son from school. We made plans for a movie date the next day. It truly was love at first sight
The Proposal Story
We had started talking about marriage very early on. Spencer knew he wanted to marry me after the first date (he told his son "I'm going to marry her" that afternoon) I knew after the second date (immediately after our first kiss) while most people would believe we are "rushing" but, neither one of us feels that way. When you know, you know.
I had begun to look at rings at his request. My only stipulation was the he meet my parents first.
2 weeks before Christmas, I introduced Spencer and his son to my parents. I planned on introducing them to the rest of my immediate family at Christmas, but wanted my parents to have the opportunity to get to know them first. The afternoon was awesome. We talked, played games and had dinner. My parents liked them a lot.
We spend the night afterwards talking about how much we loved each other and how we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. At about 4 in the morning, Spencer popped the question. I was laying on the bed, he went to the bathroom and on his way back grabbed the ring. He said he couldn't wait any longer. He did have a speach prepared, but i think he forgot most of it and just spoke from the heart. Through (happy) tears and shock I said yes. While I was expecting the proposal, I was not expecting it at that time. We told his son in the morning, and he was so happy. His son hugged both of us.
